As I write this I have had two shows to judge this weekend cancelled, sent my entry in to compete in a show in two weeks, and am scheduled to judge a show later this month potentially as a 3rd judge! I think we will all know more by the end of June about what it will be like at competitions during these unprecedented times. It is difficult I think to make any concrete plans as everything is so fluid. We just have to be flexible and able to roll with whatever happens to our schedules. It has been really fun doing all the fun facebook photos and videos on the new members site with the CDS members while we are sheltering in place. I really have enjoyed the Friday night’s Q and A live video webinars with Melissa, Axel, Sue, Paula, Carol and Patti. I have gotten to know them much better as we are learning about technical things...lol.. We were having one every Friday evening, but with the return to competition, we will all be out judging and showing! We are planning to do another Q and A live on Facebook the last Friday in June to talk about how it was for everyone returning to competition. If you want to learn how to better make a freestyle or how half passes are judged or how to train a shoulder in, please watch the saved episodes. I thinkAxel, Melissa and Sue did an amazing job answering all the live questions! Patti Schofler has gone above and beyond with all the fabulous giveaways during the judges Q and A. I wanted to thank all the sponsors of the amazing giveaways- Dressage Today on Demand, Smart Pak, Riding Warehouse, books from Trafalgar Square, Riding lessons with Melissa and Sue, and some lovely Wine stoppers hand made by Sue. There are two new fun Facebook items, the first one is on Friday evenings at 5pm. It is an Equestrian Fitness program with Michael Lingenfelter and a painting class with loose brushes where you will all paint together and make a beautiful painting together. Log on and join in! Patti ran a super fun CDS Ultimate Ride-Off with some fabulous photos of our Grand Prix Riders Sponsored by Equis Mart! It was so much fun voting every day and hearing everyone cheer each other on! I may have heard that there might be another fun competition hosted by Patti coming up soon! So many members have posted a fun “between the ears” photo and foal photos, awards, CDS Adult Amateur Clinic photos, “other barn animals” photos, family, kids, friends, barn buddies....it has been so wonderful to see such beautiful horses, animals and people. If you have an idea for a fun post that everyone can participate in please do not hesitate to share it. We have changed the way we are looking at training and competitions now, how to still be able to train our horses, compete and maintain a social distance. I think we are also spending more time on the internet, learning about training and using zoom conferences so we can all stay connected. We will go through this learning curve together. Nominations will be open to join the CDS board. If you are interested in helping out please contact Paula in the central office. Please remember to vote for our Region 7 USDF representatives, voting is open online. This will also be another fluid event. I took a poll recently if I would prefer to travel to the USDF Convention and BOG or see it through a zoom conference. I think we will all have to wait and see what is decided as it gets closer to the meeting. Here at CDS we are also making dual plans, the Annual Meeting committee has made wonderful “PlanA” plans at LAEC for Valentine’s Day weekend....and... are making “Plan B”plans for something live but online depending on what happens over the summer and fall...Nothing of course is decided until we get closer to the event. This is an opportunity to visit new ideas and make plans to be able to be together as we shelter in place until the time that we can be actually together again. Things have changed for us at home as well, I am cooking more elaborate meals and healthy desserts, my garden has never been so lush and I bought a few more chickens to enlarge our flock. Hubby and I are working most weekends on our yard and landscape. We get to talk more as a family as we have more time around the table at night. We watch old movies together and talk about what is going on locally, in California, our nation and the world. I am working out to my iphone connected to my HDMI port on the TV. It is amazing all the workouts you can stream at home to exercise to! I am for sure missing my hairdresser though, It is long enough I have taken to wearing it in a braid! Yikes!!
