One of our CDS board members and a dear friend Sue Curry has unexpectedly passed away. Sue was one of our FABULOUS judges who did the Q and Awith your judges Friday night Facebook evenings together. The Wednesday before she passed, we were all on the phone and computers together trying to get the zoom meeting to go online. We could not figure out the new changes to Face Book or Zoom and we were all laughing and joking together as we usually do before the Q and A sessions. Axel, Melissa, Paula and I are still in shock. We were planning to hold another Q and A the following week as soon as all the technical items were worked out. We have suspended our Q and A for this month as we want to honor Sue’s memory and it just did not feel right to any of us to hold it without her. We have all talked and will eventually carry on but we will keep her chair empty as our hearts are broken and empty missing her. Sue was the kindest, most positive person you would want to meet. She was always ready to step up and help out. She was an “S” judge, on the “L” faculty, on the CDS board, she made freestyles, taught full time, did clinics, coaching...there is so much to name. She donated wonderful embroidered awards chairs for Championship High Point awards, she made some really beautiful hand made wooden wine stoppers that she donated as gifts during the Q and A with the judges sessions and even gave away some free lessons as awards as well. I have a beautiful wine stopper that she made just for me. I will cherish it as I cherish every moment we have spent talking and laughing together. We had an opportunity to work together at Championships last year as volunteers. We had so much fun discussing the rides, the new spiffy outfits the riders are wearing, and how much we enjoy being part of CDS and being judges and working together. It was a real treat for both of us to participate at the big show as volunteers. The CDS board and I are all devastated. We have all gotten to know her so much better with her time with us on the board. She was on so many committees and had encouraging and helpful information to share on all of them. If you have not met her in person, please watch some of the past episodes of the Q and A. She had wonderful anecdotes and training advice. She was a really good friend and she will be greatly missed. For those that wish to donate The Dressage Foundation is doing something special for Sue. Please contact them directly. I am personally stunned and dismayed by the loss of Sue. She was so young and healthy and it was so unexpected! This brought home to me how fleeting life is, kiss your kids, grandkids and spouse and do as much good as you can for as long as you can.
