The USDF convention will be virtual this year. The new draft from USDF just came out for the agenda. The main difference this year is that all the committees will be on a zoom conference call ahead of time. One of the committees I am on met this week. It is strange not getting to see everyone live and in person but with the convenience of Zoom, we can all see each other’s faces! Our USDF Regional meetings will still be held one right after the other on Thursday Dec 3rd. We will still of course have the BOGmeeting and we will all be given a pin to use to show attendance and to vote. I am thinking they will have to be creative this time as there won’t be a “walk of shame” if we forget to sign in! It looks like there will still be Featured educational events. Materiale Classes for the dressage horse with Kristi Wysocki, Drugs Devices and Decisions Options in Managing Equine Degenerative Joint Disease with Dr. Marian Graves from Adequan. Bits 100 with Beth Haist. Training Issues of the Not-So-Perfect Dressage Horse with Janet Foy. The P’s and Q’s of Protein Feeding in Equine Diets with Dr. Caroline Loos from Cavalor Feeds. Sleep for Success with Dr. Sandy Venneman. There are also some open forums with Committee Reports and Q and A. With the convention being virtual.....VIRTUALLY anyone can watch! No plane tickets or hotel costs, no time away from work... If PM and GM Delegate and BOG are unfamiliar terms, you owe it to yourselves to take this opportunity to join us at the convention...virtually....lols One of the committees I am on with CDS is the Annual Meeting Committee, we had a really fun event planned at LAEC and a beautiful hotel as well. It was going to be held on Valentine’s Day weekend. The theme was going to be “love your horse”! The hotel has placed so many restrictions of how many people could be dining in a room together, how many people at a table, how many in a meeting room, not to mention LAEC had not reopened yet, we have decided to go virtual for 2021. It is a brave new world. We are learning so much about technology, social media, zoom and webinars. The final draft of our agenda is not out yet but we will make it as fun and inspirational as we can. Also with it being virtual...VIRTUALLY everyone could potentially join in! No travel or hotel costs...etc. CDS was able to learn how to use zoom (we have committee and board meetings and email discussions all the time now) and we were able to figure out how to make a webinar on Facebook! Q andAwith your judges, and a wonderful young horse event with Christine Traurig, Willy Arts and Kevin Reining.. All CDS members. One of the positives for the board is that we can have meetings all the time, as often as we need them rather than waiting for a full day’s board meeting in person quarterly. This saves CDS and it’s members money for travel and hotel fees. It is still great to get to see everyone in person and have our discussions live but with Zoom we still get to see everyone’s faces and expressions while they are speaking. We had some fun painting and exercise classes virtually on our members only facebook page. If you do not yet have a facebook membership, it is fun to be even on just that one page as there is so much nice content to watch and discuss with friends from CDS. It looks like riding lessons have become virtual. We can now take a lesson with one of our mentors virtually over the air waves from Austria or England or even Hanford should we so desire! It also looks like the young horse submittals are being done virtually with video submittals and the lessons as well. 2020 has been a year of learning and thinking “outside the box”. If you have any ideas for fun events that can be done virtually for our CDS members, please email the central office. If we think it is possible, we will figure out how to do it!
