Protocols are being developed as far as pertaining to people and large crowds. Some riding events worldwide are being canceled or postponed. We will update you as the information comes in. Our hearts go out to people all over the world that are being affected by this virus, travel restrictions, food, toilet paper and hand sanitizer shortages. We have many changes this year at CDS. I would imagine many of you have heard about the newAB5 labor law in California. CDS is changing from using an independent contractor to run the Central Office for the past 40 years to utilizing employees. Paula and Kathie, those friendly voices at the end of the phone are now our employees. Paula had run a successful office management and publishing company with her own employee Kathie. The accountant for CDS as well as the bookeeper thought it necessary to make this change. The board voted and welcomed Paula and Kathie, as our newly minted employees! CDS would like to support and help beginning or ‘new to dressage’ riders get started in training dressage by introducing a new pilot program to increase opportunities for these newer riders in the CDS-only recognized shows. We are encouraging Chapters to offer these new unrated classes at their shows. If you offer Chapter awards, we would also encourage you to offer year end awards for these classes and divisions if the number of rides support this.  If any classes are successful at the Chapter Shows, CDS may offer a year end award system. Leadline, Training aid class, Freestyle training class, Prix Caprilli class (yes with jumps), Western Dressage and Eventing dressage and Intro A, B and C classes. **These are unrated classes the chapters can offer. Helmets are required. Non member fees apply. Chapters, please let your judges know ahead about any unrated classes and their definitions. See the description on page 11. Quadrille and Pas De Deux has some exciting things going on. Sarah Pinney is beginning to offer Pas De Deux clinics and Laurel Bruun at Osierlea is offering a fun play day with Quadrille. Susi Wren’s group has offered to do a demo ride for CDS. Jackie Bretschneider has lit a fire under the Gilroy quadrille group and Marily Reese is also in a competition group. The plans for our 2021 Annual Meeting will have us down south again. LAEC has generously offered space for a horse oriented meeting on Sunday. The plans are underway to have it Valentine’s Day Weekend! With Michele Ng at the helm, the meeting will be having some fun lively components before the Saturday Evening Silent auction and Gala Dinner! (I heard there might be something similar to this year’s Jog!) The next two Championship Shows may well expand onto Wednesday! I also wanted to take a moment and let everyone know that the CDS board members and USDF committee members emails and names have been hacked. If you get a text message or email from one of us asking you to buy a gift card, or send a cheque or buy an itunes card and scratch off the code and take a picture of it and text or email it back to you....it is not us...it is a scam. Do not fall for it! We will never be asking for gift cards or itunes cards...lol :) Jennifer Keeler has added to the CDS FB page a Learn More button that takes you to the CDS website. Paula has mailed out the CDS reminders for membership. She will begin adding those as inserts in CDS letters for next year. Mari Naten is our new 2020 CDS representative for the Equine Educational Monitoring Program. The Scholarship Committee name is changed to Scholarship and Endowment Committee. Please get your scholarships forms in asap as the deadline is fast approaching. Check out the forms section of our website. All in all it has been an exciting start to 2020. We will do our best to keep you updated on the new exciting changes and programs we are implementing. The board is an enthusiastic hardworking group. Please volunteer at your local Chapter level, attend any Board meetings that are in your area, we have them this year in Irvine, and San Jose. I look forward to seeing you all out there this year in the show ring, at Chapter meetings or Board meetings!
