Tevis Forum 2012

68 ★ TEVIS FORUM 2012 Whether you finish or not, this will be the experience of a life time. I wish you a great Ride and thank you for your continued support in pre- serving this wonderful trail, THEWEST- ERN STATES 100 MILE TRAIL. ■ What they had done, what they had seen, heard, felt, feared— the places, the sounds, the color, the cold, the darkness, the emptiness, the bleakness, the beauty. ‘Til they died, this stream of memory would set them apart, if imperceptibly to anyone but themselves, from everyone else. For they had crossed the mountains… along the Western States Trail. Mostly, Bernard DeVoto, American Historian 1897 - 1955 set the cost of operating this expanded parking area for training and parking while participating in the Tevis Ride. The new location for the WSTF of- fice is at 150 Gum Lane, which is adja- cent to the expanded staging area. When I attended my first evening meeting at the new address, I looked out the big south facing window and watched two deer looking back at us. This location of- fers more convenience and some “Tevis” serenity. Please feel free to walk in while at the ride or on any Wednesday prior to the event for a visit. The trail to Auburn this year will start at Robie Park in Truckee and pro- ceed to Robinson Flat on the traditional trail. Leaving Robinson the riders will head west a couple of miles on Road 41 before connecting back to the Little Bald Mountain trail. The Pucker Point Trail is next and then it’s on toAuburn on the traditional course, much of which has been re- dressed by the trail committee members to improve safety, passing opportuni- ties, and footing. We will use the same Pioneer Ex- press Trail finish as last year with riders getting place and time before crossing under the PacificAvenue undercrossing. Riders must then proceed to McCann Stadium to the official finish under the banner, followed by the final vet check in the stadium. Look for Tevis Elite hats at the ma- jor vet checks. This is a new feature offered this year. We anticipate that some riders would benefit from advice and assistance to get through vet checks efficiently and expediently. Riders who have earned 1000-mile buckles who are not riding this year have volunteered to make themselves available to help, advise and answer questions of riders, which is something ride officials cannot do. Look at it as the 2012 concierge ser- vice, and if it turns out that they just of- fer encouragement to you, great! These people will be the most knowledgeable source of Tevis information and strat- egy you can assemble. You just need to know they are available to help if you would like to access their talents. See you down the trail... ■ From the Ride Director Continued from page 1 From the President Continued from page 1 FINANCING AVAILABLE O.A.C.
