Adrienne Lyle on Salvino Steffen Peters on Suppenkasper Sabine Schut-Kery on Sanceo Nick Wagman on Don John CDS is so proud of all our US athletes, but are especially excited that so many CDS members are going!  The Team Alternates Ben Ebeling and Olivia LaGoy-Weltz are also from California!  We can all live vicariously through our US athletes, but it seems so familiar to see all of them in the warmup arena coaching students, showing in the arena next to ours, seeing their fun freestyles at our California Shows. The team will be led by Chef d’Equipe Debbie McDonald and Team Leader Hallye Griffin.  The Olympic dressage competitions are being held on July 24-25 and 27-28 2021 at the equestrian park in Tokyo’s Heritage Zone. The team medals will be decided on 27 July. The horses and riders have already left for Tokyo.  The judges are all leaving soon to go as well. Janet Foy is the US judge and Lilo Fore (California) is on the JSP Judge Supervisory Panel. Emily Sandler Burtness is the Vet from Pacific Coast Equine Services in San Diego (ALSO CALIFORNIA!).  I have heard they have to carry a briefcase full of paperwork to get in!  I had the honor of getting to judge this past weekend with our 2021 Olympic Judge, Janet Foy!!  Janet wants to encourage the California riders who are such a huge group of Open, Amateur and JR YR’s, to enter and support CDI’s and CNI’s.  She said FEI judges do not score lower so do not be afraid of putting ourselves in the big ring. CDI One Star and CDI Two Star do not require a passport and you can have three judges instead of five.  Check out our Facebook page with a big list of West Coast shows over the winter!  With California helping represent us on the World Stage, let’s all set our sights just a bit higher! I must say, with the last tough year we have all experienced, it will be wonderful to get to watch them all compete on the big stage on TV.  Live streaming of the equestrian events can be found at: https://sports.nbcsports.com/2021/06/29/how-to-watch-tokyo- olympics-equestrian-tv-live-streaming-schedule/ Dressage was first seen in the Olympics in the 1912 Games in Stockholm with only men allowed to compete.  Three equestrian disciplines have been on the Olympic program since 1912: Jumping, Dressage and Eventing. Since 1912, 2,067 riders from 65 countries have competed approximately 4,000 times in Olympic competitions. Let’s all enjoy this year’s Olympics together!  Share your best Olympic moments on our CDS Members page on Facebook.
