Following in the footsteps of USEF and USDF with the Pandemic still in full force, the safest course seems to be a virtual zoom meeting. We are really excited about the potential for more of the membership to be able to attend. Not having the expense of hotels and flights not to mention not having to take off work should make this event more available for folks right now. The meeting will start on Friday with our Executive Board Meeting and an Educational Session right afterwards. On Saturday we will do our traditional roundtable discussions with Chapter Chairs in three one hour sessions. There will be a fun game with Sarah and then a big awards event afterwards. Sunday will be two more educational sessions that are sure to be fun and informative. We are excited about the prospect of having a virtual meeting...and a little bit excited about the daunting prospect of all the technological things that have to go right for this all to happen. Paula was already a computer connoisseur but has become truly a computer, zoom and face book wizard with all the online meetings and webinars she has had to host. Patti has secured GGT-Footing as our Annual Meeting Sponsor! Much thanks to GGT-Footing for your continued support! We are scheduling practices for getting people online on zoom with the proper CDS backgrounds, Chapter Chairs have been contacted also to ensure we can get all of them on line at the same time. With all the pre preparation I am sure this will all go off smoothly. We had a really sad thing happen a few weeks ago. Our daughter Melissa bred a lovely dutch filly. The baby came premature in spring, mama’s milk did not come in, her wee little legs were not straight, she had a small hernia, basically a really rough start in life. Melissa slept with her in the stall overnight for a week to give her round the clock feedings, had a small surgery to straighten her little legs, special glue on shoes to help straighten her legs, bought special bottles, nipples and big buckets of powdered milk for her. We had a team running round the state to get colostrum here for the baby for her 1st day on the planet. She was kept confined with mama in her stall for her first three months so the little legs could straighten. She actually came through all this and had perfect little legs, special shoes came off and she was weaned off the powdered milk at five months. She somehow managed to get herself cast in a small sapling in a big pasture. The vet was called immediately and we got her untangled and all looked ok for about 30 minutes. She ended up colicing badly. The vet said time was of the essence. We could not get her to stand up so we rolled her onto a tarp and drug her to the trailer and whisked her off to Steinbeck Equine. They said she needed surgery and we got the call a few hours later that they could not remove all the twists in her intestine even with long valiant attempts. There was also a small tear that they would not be able to reach even if they were to remove all the knots and her prognosis was not good. The very hard decision was made. This wee one was part of our family. It was so heartbreaking. Melissa opted to have her cremated and it helps to see her lovely urn and plaque. Katie made a beautiful shadow box with her first halter, trimmings from her mane and tail and baby’s first little plastic glue on shoes. We went down to DG Bar and looked at some lovely babies. She looks so much like Mina it is uncanny. It will be good to see the babies playing again. Sweet Nori has had a babysitter friend come stay with her til Melissa’s new weanling comes. She misses Mina as much as we all do. Melissa’s new foal passed its vet check and just arrived! She has some really big shoes to fill, but so far she is beginning to fill a hole in our hearts. They have a way of being such a big part of our lives and it is so hard to lose them. Yes 2020 has been a difficult year, I am hoping for a really good 2021.
