I am gone almost every weekend either judging or showing for the summer. New Covid Protocols are in place and I am pleased to see that people seem to be following them. I was at the Northern RAAC Jr/YR Championships last weekend and it was fabulous. Great footing, wonderful people, super volunteers and of course incredible horses and riders! Our group is attending a mid week show that we leave for tomorrow, we are all super excited to be showing again! The host hotel for the Northern RAAC was the wonderful Murieta Inn and Spa. The restaurant was open with outdoor pool area seating. The food was fabulous as always! I will hopefully have a similarly good report for you from the Central and Southern RAAC and Jr/YR Championships. Just a few last minute show reminders: If you are showing in a Championship class, whips are NOT allowed If jackets are waived you MUST remove your stock tie. If the end of your whip is fraying, please cut of those pesky few strings so it is not too long. DO maintain a social distancing of 6 feet. DO wear your mask while un-mounted. (I keep mine in my pocket while showing) Wait for the bell to sound before entering. Remember that you might hear the bell from a neighboring arena, if it is not your judges bell, KEEP RIDING!! Thank the volunteers, just a kind word means a lot to those helping out but not able to compete this time. As you all have probably heard by now LAEC has not reopened. We needed to move our Championships to a new venue. As you know we met via Zoom to discuss if and where to move our championships due to the remained closure of the planned facility. We considered the online posts by our members as well as some well thought out letters sent to CDS. After much discussion it was unanimous that for those CDS members who wished to compete at the CDS / USDF Championships, we would host our annual show. With the inclusion of numerous facilities the consensus was to try to keep the show in the south on our planned dates to maintain the regular rotation. After weighing all the points made by members and board questions, the decision was made to relocate the Championships to Del Mar Horse Park! The show committee’s goal will be to make this a special event for our competitors. It will of course be different than a normal year’s event with no social gatherings of any kind, but there are numerous creative ideas we will implement to make this a special event. We will be meeting via zoom within the next week to discuss the fun ideas that maintain social distancing. If you have any fun suggestions please send them to me! Qualifying will remain at the modified level and in addition all RAAC and JRYR who qualify and attend RAAC and JRYR will automatically be qualified and invited to attend CDS Championships this year! I am so touched by how positive all the CDS members are. I think everyone is so happy to be riding our horses and showing again. My heart is going out to anyone experiencing Covid at this time. You will be in my thoughts and if there is ANYTHING I can do to help, please let me know. I am grateful to be part of such an amazing community our Horse Family CDS.
