Western States 100 Mile One
Day Ride, known around the world
as the “TevisCup.”
Iwishall of you— riders, horses,
crews,spectators—agreatadventure.
I would like to personally thank
the 35members of theBoardofGov-
ernors of the Western States Trail
Foundation for theiryear-roundcom-
mitment and the 800 plus volunteers
whomake this eventwhat it is today.
The Western States Trail Foun-
dation would like to recognize and
thank the many sponsors, grantors,
advertisers, and individual donors
who have contributed to the success
of the 2011 ride. Their support
enables us not only to put on
theRideonceayear,butalso to
preserveand improve thishis-
toric 100mile trail, to publish
the Tevis Forum, to support
equineresearchand toeducate
thepublicon therichhistoryof
both the trail and theRide.
I look forward tomeeting
manyof you, andamhonored
to be serving asWSTF President. It’s
mymission to support our efforts in
ensuring that we leave the legacy of
Western States Trail for our grand-
children’sgrandchildrenandbeyond.
Restassured thatourorganization
and volunteers will do our part to
ensure that the trail is ready and safe
for your 100-mile challenge.

Kathie Perry is the first
woman in thehistoryof theWesternStates
Trail Foundation (founded in 1955) to
hold the office of President. Kathie won
the Tevis in 1978 on 12-year-old Arab
geldingPrince Koslaif in a riding time of
12:17.Sheearnedher20thbuckle in2010.

ur goal for the 2011 Tevis is to
improve the ride experience
for riders, crew, volunteers and the
community. The Ride Committee,
head volunteers and veterinarians
are focused on helping riders safely
reach thefinish lineandhaving them
take home memories that will last a
lifetime. The production of the Tevis
event isayear-long, on-goingadven-
ture for thosewhodedicatecountless
hours on behalf of Wendell Robie’s
legacy.AsRideDirector for thisyear’s
event, I have had the pleasure and
privilege of being surrounded by a
RideCommittee teemingwith talent.
I want to give a special thank you to
past Ride Director Mike Pickett for
mentoringme and this committee.
I’vebeenassociatedwith theTevis
since 1974 as a ride completer, crew,
member of the Board of Governors,
andnow asRideDirector.My family
of four has 23 buckles (earned from
top ten tomiddle tobackof thepack).
MywifePam and I have twodaugh-
ters,whoboth completed as 12-year-
